Mainline Magazine Issues

The issues of Sacramento City College’s student-run magazine, Mainline, on which I worked are available in PDF format below (in order from most recent to oldest). The individual articles are also available.

Mainline (spring 2015)

This issue, which was my final run with the magazine, included five features – including my article on the college’s aeronautics program – highlighting many aspects of life at Sacramento City College. I served as editor-in-chief for this issue.

Mainline (fall 2014)

As a staff writer, I talked to three historians on the Sacramento City College campus about the ways they preserve the history of the school.

Mainline (fall 2013)

As a staff writer, I profiled John Masterson – a former Sacramento City College student living with Down syndrome who accomplished many successes in life, including attending college, living on his own and working in the State Capitol. This article won third place in magazine feature writing from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges.

Mainline (fall 2011)

In my first semester on Mainline, under the direction of then Sacramento News & Review co-editor Rachel Leibrock, I served as managing editor. I also contributed two articles – one on juggling a college workload with a video game hobby and the other, a collaborative effort with the magazine’s editor-in-chief, on the college’s historical landmarks.

Additionally, portions of the ‘landmarks’ article were published in a book by Dr. William Doonan celebrating the college’s 100th anniversary, which released in the fall of 2016. My article in the fall 2014 issue of Mainline previewed this book.
